7 Days7 Days Lemosho Route
A strong balance of scenery, acclimatization and overall trip length.
View itineraryThe shortest standard Marangu schedule; possible, but acclimatization is more demanding.
5 Days Marangu Route follows Mandara , Horombo , Kibo with a mountain huts setup. The itinerary below is written as an operational climbing plan, not just a list of camps: each day explains the altitude strategy, the reason for the pace and what happens before summit night. Mountain weather and individual acclimatization can still require guide-led changes, and safety always takes priority over reaching a scheduled camp or summit.
Register at Marangu Gate and climb through rainforest on a well-established trail to Mandara Hut. The hut system makes Marangu different from the camping routes, but the mountain still demands careful pacing and hydration.
Leave the forest and enter heath and moorland, with Mawenzi and Kibo views possible in clear weather. The altitude gain is substantial, so the guide will keep the group moving slowly even when the trail feels comfortable.
Cross the high alpine saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo. The landscape becomes sparse and exposed. Arrive at Kibo in the afternoon, eat early and prepare for a midnight summit start.
Climb through the night toward Gilman’s Point on the crater rim and continue to Uhuru Peak if conditions and health allow. Descend back to Kibo for a short rest, then continue to Horombo Hut.
Descend through moorland and rainforest to Marangu Gate, sign out and transfer to Moshi or Arusha.
