9 Days9 Days Northern Circuit Route
A full northern circuit schedule for trekkers prioritizing acclimatization and quieter trails.
View itineraryA demanding route with rapid altitude gain before joining the southern circuit.
6 Days Umbwe Route follows Umbwe , Barranco , Karanga , Barafu , Mweka with a camping setup. The itinerary below is written as an operational climbing plan, not just a list of camps: each day explains the altitude strategy, the reason for the pace and what happens before summit night. Mountain weather and individual acclimatization can still require guide-led changes, and safety always takes priority over reaching a scheduled camp or summit.
Start on Kilimanjaro’s steepest main approach, climbing quickly through rainforest on a narrow ridge. This route gains altitude fast and is recommended only for trekkers who understand the acclimatization trade-off.
Continue steeply upward as the forest gives way to heather and moorland. Reach Barranco beneath the southern ice fields.
Climb the Barranco Wall and traverse valleys to Karanga. This shorter day provides a badly needed acclimatization and recovery window after Umbwe’s rapid opening ascent.
Climb to Barafu, prepare summit layers and rest. Your guide will carefully review health before the overnight summit attempt.
Start before midnight, climb to Stella Point and continue to Uhuru Peak if conditions and health allow. Descend to Mweka Camp.
Descend through rainforest to Mweka Gate and transfer to town.
